The T.F. Green Airport (PVD) is only 38 miles from Newport. You can find flights on the following airlines: US Airways, United, Continental,Southwest, New England Airlines, SATA, Spirit, Northwest, Delta, Cape Air, Air Canada and American Airlines. Though flying is good if you are traveling from great distances, we normally do not recommend it if you are traveling from within 400 miles for Rhode Island. It can sometimes take longer to fly. For example, when you factor in getting to the airport, check in, luggage claim, renting a car, etc, it actually takes longer (and cost more) to fly to Rhode Island from Washington D.C. than if you were to drive the 7.5 hours. Though there are some exceptions so you might want to check Travelzoo, Expedia, AAA, Cheaptickets, Orbitz, Southwest Airlines or Momondo to see what is best for your area. There have been some really low airfare with Southwest into Providence from various cities around the U.S.A. From the Airport, you can take the Cozy Cab Shuttle Service ($25/pp), the RIPTA Bus 14 ($1.75/pp) or take a taxi ($65 per car). You may also find it cheaper to rent a car from Hertz PVD and drive it to Hertz Newport and just drop it off. That may seem ridiculous for a half hour drive but sometimes it actually works in your favor if you have two or more people with all their luggage as well.
